I added the Pirc Defence to my opening repertoire over a decade ago. It is a valuable opening to have in one’s arsenal, as it promises uncompromising battles and offers winning chances even with the black pieces. However, your games won’t be without turbulence, as this opening involves a calculated risk. The black side plays a somewhat provocative opening by allowing the opponent to take the centre, and white can decide to launch an early attack.
This is often the scenario we aim to provoke, seeking an imbalanced game that we hope to handle better than our opponent. Many White players, lulled into a sense of false security, have fallen into the trap of the Pirc Defence. In this course, we will work to master the various aspects of this opening.
In the first part of this video course, we will analyse 10 carefully selected games that illustrate important themes, before moving on to studying our specific repertoire.
