Fischer-Benko, 1963

Fischer-Benko, USA Championship, New York 1963

The year 1963 was an amazing year for Bobby Fischer: he scored 26,5 points from 27 tournament games during that year. Many argue that the young American was then at the peak of his strength. A strong argument for such a statement is that the 20-year-old Bobby Fischer won the 1963/1964 US Championship by scoring a unique result of 11 points out of 11 games. The presented game versus Benko from this round robin tournament is incidentally Fischer's final game of 1963. It features a famous tactical move that can be found in all books about classical combinations.
