Italian Game - Evans Gambit - Conclusion

For whom is the Evans Gambit the right opening?

The requirements of the Evans Gambit in terms of practical application are comparable to the King's Gambit. The Evans Gambit is also an opening that is particularly suitable for amateur or club players. The focus is on ideas and plans, a lot of tactics and less memory work for concrete move sequences. It often results in games in which the player who has a better feel for chances comes out on top. An opening for all those who like to attack, want a sharp, tactical battle and are not afraid of sacrifices. In short: you stick to your strengths even when the board is on fire: cool and clean maths!

In addition to its sporting benefits, the Evans Gambit is also a good school: you learn to play chess primarily by attacking, not by defending. And you will learn whether this aggressive chess suits you. And you will learn to master the transition from the gambit opening to the middlegame.

And if, as Black, you want to play 1. ... e5 and against Italian 3. ... Bc5 (for which there are good reasons), then you can't avoid the Evans Gambit. Although this type of position will be rather rare for you, you should equip yourself with a few concrete variations. The retreat of the bishop with 5 - Be7 is a good option here. But you can look forward to an interesting and rich game.
