Openings #1 The Open Games

Spanish Game - Möller + Arkhangelsk Variation - Conclusion

Here it is Black who forces the progress of the game and the emergence of tactical chances.  In order for Black to be successful with this variation, they need solid theoretical knowledge as well as the ability to deal with the resulting positions, which are often characterised by a material imbalance. Only those who can calculate well and evaluate positions correctly will have fun here. It is therefore rather unsuitable for beginners at tournament chess.

If White plays Spanish, they should have something up their sleeve against this variation. Otherwise, there is a risk that White will be unable to counter the black pieces that suddenly become active.
