Italian Game - Giuoco Pianissimo - Overview

The quiet Italian - the Italian term Giuoco Pianissimo (or Giuoco Piano) is also widespread - is characterised above all by the fact that White initially builds up with the pawn moves c2-c3 and d2-d3. Although the d3-d4 advance is still the aim of White's opening treatment, the priority is to develop and position the pieces.

In his video lecture, IM Valery Lilov concludes that Giuoco Pianissimo is a promising quiet system to play as White, at the same time pointing that it gives opportunities for both sides.
