To demonstrate an idea it can be useful to insert several moves for one side into the notation without any replies. In the program this is done via Insert - Null move, or with Ctrl-Alt-0.

If you switch on analysis mode with ALT-F2, you can enter several consecutive moves for one side without reply moves.
